SCHOOL TOURS

We are enthusiastic about educating students on the importance of recycling and proper waste practices for the future of Tasmania's environment.

As such, we offer free site tours of the waste transfer station to Tasmanian schools, where students can learn how to contribute to environmentally sustainable waste practices. The interactive sessions will show students how the waste transfer station works to reduce the waste that goes to landfill, re-use and repurpose applicable waste received on site, as well as ways in which we work to preserve our natural environment.

On the tour, we will also show students how the waste transfer station operates on a daily basis, the machinery used to process the waste received, the reality of where the waste they produce goes, and what we do to ensure a safe working environment for both visitors and workers.

Located just 15 minutes from Hobart, our tours are a great option for teachers looking for an engaging, relevant and informative half-day excursion.

WHAT OUR SCHOOL TOURS LOOK LIKE:

  • ON-SITE TOUR

After confirming a date and time for your tour, your school group will come to our site where the first step of our waste management education begins.

This is where we show and explain the processes of waste management at our site, creating discussion with the students about what they’re seeing and experiencing on the tour.

We also provide students and teachers with collateral materials that promote recycling and sustainable purchasing practices.

  • POST-TOUR LEARNING

We have developed a range of education packs that allow students and teachers to learn MORE about waste and our processes once their site tour is completed. These packs include a presentation that is to be shown and discussed with students after touring MPWTS.

Within these presentations we cover a range of topics related to different types of waste, what we accept at our site, what we do with the waste we receive, where it ultimately goes, and tips to improve our daily waste practices.

LEARN ABOUT WASTE MANAGEMENT

Our aim at MPWTS is to minimise environmental impact by diverting waste destined for landfill. But we can’t do it all alone, we need your help too. In order to be able to manage waste effectively, our customers need to be disposing of their waste correctly. That is why education is such a key part of what we do. We encourage you to learn more about how you can better your waste disposal practices to benefit your community.
